Accommodations

VANOC, in association with the regional tourism associations and hotels, are in the early stages of an accommodation plan for spectators that will be traveling to Vancouver and Whistler for the 2010 Winter Games.  More information on spectator accommodation will be available in fall 2008.

As part of its mandate to plan, organize and stage the Games, VANOC is securing accommodations for the numerous user groups that fall under the responsibility of the Organizing Committee. These include the International Olympic Committee, the National Olympic Committees of participating nations, International Sport Federations, international and domestic corporate sponsors, international and domestic news media, athletes’ families, team coaches and support personnel.   Of the more than 30,000 hotel rooms available, these user groups require approximately 20,000 rooms.

Once this process is completed, hotels participating in VANOC’s accommodation program will know exactly how many of their rooms will be available for spectators. Until that time, the hotels are not taking reservations for the Games period.

VANOC is not directly involved with setting prices for spectator accommodation, but is working with tourism organizations to encourage best practices and ensure a fair market value. Accommodation pricing is the responsibility of the individual hotels, but we expect that rooms will be available at a variety of price levels.

While there are several third party websites currently providing listings for property rentals during the 2010 Winter Games, none of these are associated with or sanctioned or authorized by VANOC.
